The cell cycle has two stages, a long non dividing interphase (I) and a short dividing mitotic phase (M).
I-phase is divisible into 3 phases.
(i) Post mitotic gap phase (G1)
(ii) Synthesis phase (S)
(iii) Premitotic gap phase (G2)
