Solution:
Herbert Copeland in 1956 proposed the 4-kingdom classification system.
The 4 kingdoms included:
Monera
Protista
Metaphyta (Eukaryotic Plant)
Metazoan (Eukaryotic Animal)
Aristotle (384-322 BC) had divided living organism in two-kingdoms, Plants and Animals.
Earnst Haeckel in 1866 had suggested the 3-kingdom classification system which included the Protista, Plantae and Animalia.
In the 3-kingdom classification system the arrangement of kingdoms was based on morphological complexities and tissue systems, the division of labour, and mode of nutrition
Copeland proposed an additional kingdom Monera (originally called Mycota) which included prokaryotes such as blue-green algae, and bacteria that shared many common characteristics.
Robert Whittaker proposed the five kingdom classification in1969 which included an additional kingdom Fungi.
In five kingdom classification system, the Monerans are thought to have given rise to the kingdom of Protista, from which the remaining kingdoms of multicellular organisms i.e. Fungi, Plantae and Animalia have evolved along separate lines.
