Q. Formic acid and formaldehyde can be distinguished by treating with -

Solution:

Formic acid is strong acid but not formaldehyde. Formic acid react with $NaHCO_{3}$ and liberated $CO_{2}$ but formaldehyde does not react with $NaHCO_{3}$ . Other tests are given by both formic acid and formaldehyde.
