When formaldehyde reacts with methyl magnesium iodide, followed by hydrolysis, the formation of primary alcohol takes place. When aldehydes other than formaldehyde reacts with methyl magnesium iodide, followed by hydrolysis, the formation of secondary alcohol takes place.
