Q. Forelimbs of whales, bats, humans and cheetah are examples of which of the following processes?

KVPYKVPY 2014

Solution:

Divergent evolution occurs when two different species share a common ancestor but have different characteristics from one another. An example of divergent evolution is human’s arm, the whale’s fin, cheetah’s legs and bat’s wing. All four forelimbs perform different purposes, but all contain the same bones in different sizes and shapes because all four animals (human, cheetah, whale, bat) evolved from a common ancestor whose legs contained those bones.
