Q. For the following cell,
$Zn\left(\right.s\left.\right)\left|\right.ZnSO_{4}\left(\right.aq\left.\right)\left|\right.\left|\right.CuSO_{4}\left(\right.aq\left.\right)\left|\right.Cu\left(\right.s\left.\right)$
when the concentration of $Zn^{2 +}$ is 10 times the concentration of $Cu^{2 +}$ , the expression for $\Delta G$ (in J $mol^{- 1}$ ) is

Solution:

$\Delta G=\Delta G^\circ +2.303RTlog_{10}Q;Q=\frac{\left[\right. Z n^{2 +} \left]\right.}{\left[\right. C u^{2 -} \left]\right.}$
$=-2F\left(\right.1.1\left.\right)+2.303RTlog_{10}10$
$=2.303RT-2.2F$
