Q. For the displacement-time graph shown in figure the ratio of the magnitudes of the speeds during the first two seconds and the next four seconds isPhysics Question Image

Motion in a Straight Line

Solution:

In the first two seconds, the body moves with uniform speed, as indicated by the constant slope.
$v_{1}=\frac{s}{t}=\frac{20 m }{2 s }=10 m / s$
In the next $4 s$, the velocity is again constant but in the opposite direction as indicated by the constant negative slope.
$v_{2}=\frac{-20 m }{4 s }=-5 \frac{ m }{ s }$
$\left|\frac{v_{1}}{v_{2}}\right|=\left(\frac{10}{5}\right)=2 \Rightarrow \frac{\left|v_{1}\right|}{\left|v_{2}\right|}=\frac{2}{1}$
