Q. For an electron, if the uncertainty in velocity is $\Delta v ,$ the uncertainty in position $\Delta x$ is given by:

Structure of Atom

Solution:

According to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle

$\Delta x \cdot \Delta p \geq \frac{h}{4 \pi}$

But $\Delta p$ (momentum) $= m \Delta v$

$\Delta x \cdot m \Delta v \geq \frac{ h }{4 \pi}$

$\Delta x =\frac{ h }{4 \pi m \Delta v }$
