Q. For a right-angled triangle having the lengths of two sides as $2 \sqrt{2}$ and 5, find the length of the third side.

AP EAMCETAP EAMCET 2020

Solution:

Let the third side of right angled triangle is ' $p$, then either
$p^{2}=(2 \sqrt{2})^{2}+5^{2}=8+25$
$\Rightarrow p=\sqrt{33}$
or $p^{2}=5^{2}-(2 \sqrt{2})^{2}=25-8$
$\Rightarrow p=\sqrt{17}$
