Q. For a reaction
$2NO\left(g\right)+Cl_{2}\left(g\right)\rightleftharpoons 2NOCl\left(g\right)$ When concentration of $Cl_2$ is doubled, the rate of reaction becomes two times of the original. When the concentration of $NO$ is doubled the rate becomes four times. What is the order of the reaction

Chemical Kinetics

Solution:

$2NO\left(g\right)+Cl_{2}\left(g\right)\rightarrow 2NOCl\left(g\right)$
Rate $=K\left[NO\right]^{2}\left[Cl_{2}\right]^{1}, \therefore O.R.=2+1=3$
