Q. For a gas undergoing an adiabatic process, the relation between temperature and volume is found to be $ T{{V}^{0.4}}= $ constant. This gas must be:

Solution:

From the adiabatic relation $ T{{V}^{\gamma -1}}=\text{constant} $ here $ V-1=0.4 $ which gives $ V=1.4 $ Therefore the gas is diatomic i.e., hydrogen.
