Q. For a gas isotherm of $d / p(y$ -axis) versus. pressure $(P)$ ( $x$ -axis) passes through the points (4,2.5) and (10,5.5) . The molar mass of gas is $(T=300 \,K ,$ density $d$ in $g / L$ and $P$ in atm $)$

States of Matter

Solution:

Let d/P = A(P) + B

Passes through (4, 2.5) and (10, 5.5).

As $y=m x+c$

$2.5=4 A+B$

$5.5=10 A+B$

$A=B=0.5$

$\Rightarrow \left(\frac{d}{P}\right)_{P \rightarrow 0}=B=0.5$

As gas is real, $M=\left(\frac{d}{P}\right)_{P \rightarrow 0} R T$

$=0.5 \times 0.082 \times 300=12.3 \,g / mol$
