Q. Following is estimated by Liebig method

Rajasthan PMTRajasthan PMT 2007Organic Chemistry – Some Basic Principles and Techniques

Solution:

(i) Nitrogen is estimated by Duma's and Kjeldahl's method.
(ii) Chlorine and bromine are estimated by Carius method.
(iii) Carbon and hydrogen are estimated by Leibig's method. In this method carbon and hydrogen are quantitatively converted into $CO _{2}$ and $H _{2} O$. By knowing the weights of $CO _{2}$ and $H _{2} O$ formed, percentage of carbon and hydrogen in the compound can be calculated.
