In class Rhodophyceae the reserve food occurs in the form of small grains of a peculiar solid carbohydrates called floridean starch. In Cyanophyceae (Myxophyceae) the food is stored in the form of unique kind of starch known as cyanophycean starch. In Chlorophyceae the carbohydrate usually stored in the form of starch. The pyrenoids are intemately associated with the elaboration of starch. In Phaeophyceae (brown algae) the photosynthetic products mannitol and laminarian are the stored materials.
