Mycoplasma is the smallest cell, they are 0.3 microns in diameter. The organization of the prokaryotic cell is fundamentally similar even though prokaryotes exhibits a wide variety of shape and function. The four basic shapes of bacteria are bacilli (rod-like), coccus (spherical), vibrio (comma-shaped) and spirillum (spiral).
