Q. Few values o f enthalpies are given below:
$O = - 141 \,kJ\, mol^{-1}$ $\quad$ $F = - 328\, kJ\, mol^{-1}$
$S = - 200 \,kJ\, mol^{-1}$ $\quad$ $Cl = - 349 \,kJ\, mol^{-1}$
What do these values show?

Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties

Solution:

Negative value of electron gain enthalpy of S is more than that of oxygen and for Cl it is more than that of fluorine.
