Q. Extraction of metal from the ore cassiterite involves

The p-Block Elements

Solution:

The important ore of tin is cassiterite $\left( SnO _2\right)$.
Tin is extracted from cassiterite ore by carbon reduction method in a blast furnace.
$SnO _2+2 C \rightarrow Sn +2 CO$
The product often contain traces of iron which is removed by blowing air through the melt to oxidise to $FeO$ which then floats to the surface.
$2 Fe + O _2 \rightarrow 2 FeO$
