Q. Equal volumes of $0.1\, M\, HCl$ and $ 0.1\,M\,NaOH $ are mixed. The concentration of the mixture will be:

Delhi UMET/DPMTDelhi UMET/DPMT 2002

Solution:

Concentration $(M)=\frac{M_{1} V_{1}+M_{2} V_{2}}{\text { total volume }}$
$M_{1}=$ molarity of $HCl$ solution $=0.1\, M$
$V_{1}=$ volume of $HCl$ solution $=1\, L$
$m_{2}=$ molarity of $NaOH$ solution $=0.1\,M$
$V_{2}=$ volume of $NaOH$ solution $=1\, L$
$\therefore M=\frac{0.1 \times 1+0.1 \times 1}{1+1}$
$=\frac{0.2}{2} =0.1\, M$
