Q. Equal volume of 1 M HCl and 1 M $H_{2}SO_{4}$ are neutralized by by dilute NaOH solution and x and y kcal of heat are liberated respectively. Which of the following is true?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

$\text{1} \, \text{mole} \, \text{H}_{\text{2}} \text{SO}_{\text{4}} \, \text{=} \, \text{2} \, \text{eq} \text{.} \, \text{H}_{\text{2}} \text{SO}_{\text{4}}$
$\text{1} \, \text{mole} \, \text{HCl} \, \text{=} \, \text{1} \, \text{eq} \text{.} \, \text{HCl}$
Thus, for equal volumes of two acids to be neutralized separately with NaOH, heat evolved will be twice in case of $H_{2}SO_{4}$ to that of HCl.
