Q.
Energy enters in the ecosystem through
Ecosystem
Solution:
Energy entering in the ecosystem is always unidirectional or one way, i.e., solar radiations $\rightarrow$ producers $\rightarrow$ herbivores $\rightarrow$ carnivores. It cannot pass in the reverse direction. There is decrease in the content and flow of energy with the rise in trophic level. $1-5 \%$ of solar radiation is trapped by producers in their photosynthetic activity. The rest is dissipated as heat. A part of energy captured by producers (gross primary productivity) is used for maintenance (through liberation in respiration) and as food to herbivores. The remaining net productivity is either used by humans or passes into detritus chain.
