Q. Electron affinity of sulphur is

The p-Block Elements - Part2

Solution:

The values of electron affinity decrease down the group-16. But electron affinity of oxygen is unexpectedly lower because of small size of oxygen.

Electron $\,\,$Sulphur $>$ Selenium $>$ Tellurium $>$ Polonium $>$ Oxygen

affinity: $\,\,\,-208.8 \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,-195.5 \,\,\,\,\,\,-190.0 \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,-174 \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,-141.4$
