Q. Electromagnetic waves of wavelength $\lambda =500nm$ are incident on a $YDSE$ apparatus. Both slits are of same width. Here $d=3mm,D=2m.$ Intensity at central maxima is $1Wm^{- 2},$ what is the intensity (in $Wm^{- 2}$ ) at a point $1mm$ above maxima of order $1$ ?

Solution:

Fringe width,
$\beta =\frac{D \lambda }{d}=\frac{1}{3}mm$
At a point $1mm$ above maxima of order $-1$
$=4th$ order maxima will be formed
$\therefore $ Intensity at this point $=1Wm^{- 2}$
