Q. Electrolysis of hot aqueous solution of $NaCl$ gives $NaClO_{4}$ , i.e., sodium perchlorate,
$NaCl+4H_{2}O \rightarrow NaClO_{4}+4H_{2}\uparrow$
How many Faraday are required to obtain $1000 \, g$ of sodium perchlorate? Report your answer by rounding it up to nearest whole number.

Solution:

Equivalent mass of $NaClO_{4}=\frac{\text{Molecular mass}}{\text{Change in oxidation state of chloride}}$
$=\frac{122.5}{+ 7 - \left(\right. - 1 \left.\right)}=15.13$
Number of Faraday = Number of equivalent of $NaClO_{4}$ formed
$=\frac{1000}{15.13}=66$
