Q. $EDTA^{4-}$ forms very stable complexes with most of the transition metals. In an octahedral $[ M ( EDTA )]^{2-}$ complex where $M$ is in $+2$ oxidation state, the number of $M - O$ bonds is/are____.

Coordination Compounds

Solution:

The donor atoms in $EDTA ^{4-}$ are $2 N$-atoms and $4$ negatively charged $O$-atoms. When $EDTA ^{4-}$ ion bonds to a metal ion $\left( M ^{ n ^{+}}\right)$, it forms six bonds (i.e., $2 M - N$ bonds and $4 M - O$ bonds).
