Q. $E^{\circ}$ cell of a galvanic cell is $1.1\, V$. Standard free energy change can be given as

AMUAMU 2011Electrochemistry

Solution:

For a glavanic cell $Z n+C u^{2+} \rightarrow C u+Z n^{2+}$
$\Delta G^{\circ}=-n F \,E^{\circ}$
$n=2, E^{\circ}=1.1 \,V$
$F=96500 \,C\,mol ^{-1}$
$\Delta G^{\circ}=-2 \times 96500 \times 1.1$
$=-212300\, J\,mol ^{-1}$
$=-212.3 \,J\,mol ^{-1}$
