Q. During diplotene stage in meiosis

Cell Cycle and Cell Division

Solution:

At diplotene phase, the chromatids of each tetrad are usually clearly visible, but the synaptonemal complex appears to be dissolved, leaving participating chromatids of the paired homologous chromosome physically joined at one or more discrete points called chiasmata (singular, chiasma; $Gr$., chiasma $=$ cross piece).
