Q. Distance between successive compression and rarefaction is $1 \,m$ and velocity of sound is $360 \,ms^{-1}$. Find frequency :

Solution:

$\lambda=2 d=2 m $
$v=\frac{\nu}{\lambda}=\frac{360 \,ms ^{-1}}{2 \,m }=180 \,Hz$
Reason : As it can be understood from the figure, distance between successive compressions and rarefactions is one half of the wavelength.
