Solution:

Diplotene is the 4th stage of prophase-I of meiosis-I. This step is characterized by the dissolution of the synaptonemal complex and appearance of chiasmata which is the X shaped structure. This step takes place after the pachytene stage.
Prophase-I is divided into five stages- leptotene, zygotene, pachytene, diplotene and diakinesis. Synapsis takes place in zygotene stage. Pachytene is the longest stage of prophase-I. Terminalisation of chiasmata occurs in diakinesis stage.
