Apomixis is the substitution of sexual reproduction by means of a kind of asexual reproduction, which does not involve meiosis and syngamy. It may occur through vegetative reproduction and agamospermy. The agamospermic plants although retain seeds as the source of propagation but they do not involve usual steps of sexual reproduction.
