Q. Decreasing order of stability of hydrogen halide is

AMUAMU 2011The p-Block Elements - Part2

Solution:

The thermal stability of hydrogen halide decreases from $HF$ to $HI$.
$HF$ is the most stable whereas $HI$ is least stable. The decrease in stability of the hydrides is due to decrease in bond strength which decreases on moving downward in the group. Hence, decreasing order of stability of hydrogen halide is
$HF > HCl > HBr > HI$
