Corpus luteum is a temporary endocrine gland of ovaries of elasmobranchs, birds and mammals. In mammals, it develops from a ruptured Graafian follicle and produced progesterone hormone. Progesterone is responsible for the maintenance of uterine endomemum until menstruation and also during pregnancy.
