Q. Copper sulphate is commercially made from copper scrap by

AMUAMU 2003

Solution:

Commercially copper sulphate is made from copper scrap by the action of dil. Sulphuric acid and air.
$ Cu+H_{2}O_{4}+\frac{1}{2}O_{2} \rightarrow CuSO_{4}+H_{2}O $
Copper reacts with $ H_{2}SO_{4} $ only in presence of oxygen. Copper does not liberate hydrogen from acid because it lies below hydrogen in electrochemical series.
