Q. Copper metal has a specific heat of 0.385 J/ $g^\circ C$ and has melting point of 1083°C. Calculate the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 22.8 g of Cu from 20.0 $^\circ C$ to 875 $^\circ C$ .

Solution:

$Q = mC. (\Delta T )$

So $Q =22.8 g \times 0.385 Jg ^{-1}{ }^{\circ} C ^{-1} \times\left(875^{\circ} C -20^{\circ} C \right)$

$=22.8 \times 0.385 \times 855 J =7.50 \times 10^{3} J$

$=7.50 kJ .$
