Q. Consider the statements S1 and S2 :
S1 : Conductivity always increases with decrease in the concentration of electrolyte.
S2 : Molar conductivity always incrteases with decrease in the concentration of electrolyte.
The correct option among the following is :

JEE MainJEE Main 2019Electrochemistry

Solution:

$S_1$ is wrong and $S_2$ is correct
On dilution, number of ions per ml decreases so conductivity decreases hence $S 1$ is wrong.
$\Lambda_{ M }=\frac{1000 \times k }{ C }$
On dilution $C$ and $k$ both decrease but the effect of $C$ is more dominating so $\Lambda_{ M }$ increases hence $S_2$ is right.
