Q. Consider the reaction, $ F{{e}^{2+}}F{{e}^{3+}}+{{e}^{-}} $

MGIMS WardhaMGIMS Wardha 2010

Solution:

$ F{{e}^{2+}}F{{e}^{3+}}-{{e}^{-}} $ The reaction towards the right is an oxidation reaction because $ F{{e}^{2+}} $ ion loose one electron and changes into $ F{{e}^{2+}} $ ion. The reaction towards the left is an reduction reaction because $ F{{e}^{3+}} $ ion gain one electron and changes into $ F{{e}^{2+}} $ ion.
