Q. Consider the following statements with respect to respiration.
(i) Glycolysis occurs in the cytoplasm of the cell.
(ii) Aerobic respiration takes place within the mitochondria.
(iii) Electron transport system is present in the outer mitochondrial membrane.
(iv) $C_{51}H_{98}O_5$ is the chemical formula of tripalmitin, a fatty acid.
(v) Respiratory quotient $ = \frac{\text{Volume of $CO_2$ evolved}}{\text{Volume of $O_2$ consumed}}$
Of the above statements

Solution:

Electron transport system is a chain of electron carriers that is present in the inner mitochondrial membrane that carry the electron from NADH and $FADH_2$ produced in mitochondrial matrix to the final acceptor oxygen, resulting in formation of $H_2O$.
Respiratory quotient is the ratio of volume of $CO_2$ evolved to the volume of $O_2$ consumed, i.e.,
$R.Q. = \frac{\text{Volumeof $CO_2$ evolved}}{\text{Volume of $O_2$ consumed}}$
