Q. Consider the following statements

Phenyl diazonium forms azodye with

$1.$ aniline

$2.$ phenol

$3.$ N, N-dimethylaniline

$4.$ anisole (methoxybenzene)

Solution:

$Ph\overset{+}{N}\equiv N$ is a weak electrophile that undergoes diazocoupling with rings activated by $-OH,-NH_{2},NHR$ or $-NR_{2}$ . The ring is not sufficiently activated by $-OCH_{3}$ and hence, anisole does not form azodye.
