Q. Consider the following statements.
I. Due to maximum effective nuclear charge, the halogens have the smallest atomic radii in their respective periods.
II. These have low ionisation enthalpy.
III. Halogens have maximum negative electron gain enthalpy.
IV. Fluorine is the most electronegative element in the periodic table.
The correct statements are

The p-Block Elements - Part2

Solution:

Due to maximum effective nuclear charge, the halogens have the smallest atomic radii in their respective periods. These have high ionisation enthalpies, due to their little tendency to lose electron. Halogens have maximum electron gain enthalpy and fluorine is the most electronegative element in the periodic table.
