Q. Consider the following reaction :
$H_{2}O\left(\right.\ell \left.\right) \rightarrow H_{2}O\left(\right.g\left.\right);\left(ΔH\right)_{1}=50kJ$
$2\left(CH\right)_{3}OH\left(\right.\ell \left.\right)+3O_{2}\left(\right.g\left.\right) \rightarrow 4H_{2}O\left(\right.\ell \left.\right)+2\left(CO\right)_{2}\left(\right.g\left.\right);\left(ΔH\right)_{2}=-1500kJ$
What is the value of $ΔH$ for second reaction if water vapour instead of liquid water is formed as product ?

Solution:

$2\left(CH\right)_{3}OH+3O_{2} \rightarrow 4H_{2}O\left(\right.g\left.\right)+2\left(CO\right)_{2}$
$ΔH=-1500+4\times 50$
$=-1500+200$
$=-1300kJ$
