Q.
Coefficient of volumetric expansion $\alpha_{V}$ is not a constant. It depends on temperature. Variation of $\alpha_{V}$ with temperature $T$ for metals is
Thermal Properties of Matter
Solution:
$\alpha_{V}$ is a characteristic of the substance but is not strictly a constant. It depends in general on temperature as shown in figure (c). It is seen that $\alpha_{V}$ becomes constant only at a higher temperature.
