Chromosomes in a bacterial cell can be $1-3$ in number and are always circular. The nucleoid of bacteria consists of a single, large DNA double helix which is circular in several bacteria. In addition to the circular DNA chromosome, a small amount of subsidise extra chromosomal DNA is also present known as plasmids or episomes.
