When benzene or its derivative is treated with carbon monoxide and $HCl$ in the presence of anhyd. $AlCl _{3}$ or $CuCl$, it gives benzaldehyde or substituted benzaldehyde.
This reaction is known as Gattermann-Koch reaction.
