In order to determine the genotype of a tall plant of F₂ generation. Mendel crossed this plant with a dwarf plant. He named this cross as test cross. In a test cross, an individual having unknown genotype is crossed with a recessive individual. The progenies formed can be easily analysed to predict the genotype of the test organism. Test cross ratio for monohybrid cross is $1:1$ where as for a dihybrid cross it is $1:1:1:1$ .
