Solution:

Chipko movement started in March 1974 in Gopeshwar in Chamoli district and was headed by Chandi Prasad Bhatt of Gopeshwar and Sunder Lal Bahuguna of Silyara in Tehri region. It was started for protecting trees. The local woman showed enormous bravery in protecting trees from the contractors by hugging them.
The population growth increases the need to produce consumer products and this need in-turn intensifies the trend to over-exploit and misuse environmental resources.
