Cholecystokinin is a peptide hormone that is secreted by mucosal epithelial cells of the small intestine. Its secretion is stimulated by the hydrochloric acid or other acids present in the stomach or duodenum. It stimulates the secretion of bile from the gallbladder into the intestine. It also stimulates the acinar cells of the pancreas to release pancreatic juice.
