Q. $\ce{CH2 = CH2 ->[(1) O_3][(2) Zn/H_2O] A ->[conc.][NaOH] $\underset{\text{ alcohol }}{\ce{ B }}$ + $\underset{\text{ sodium salt of carboxylic acid}}{\ce{ C }}$ }$
The reaction of $A$ to give $B$ and $C$ is an example of

AP EAMCETAP EAMCET 2019

Solution:

In the given sequence of reaction $A$ is $HCHO$ (formaldehyde) which undergoes Cannizzaro reaction in presence of conc. $NaOH$ to give methanol $(B)$ and sodium formate $(C)$ . The complete reaction is as follows:

$\underset{\text{Ethene}}{CH_2 = CH_2} \ce{->[O_3/Zn, H_2O][\text{Ozonolysis}]} \underset{\overset{\text{Formaldehyde}}{(A)}}{2HCHO} \ce{->[Conc. NaOH, D][\text{Cannizzaro reaction}]}$
