The collenchyma cells are polygonal or oval in shape. They have thickenings of pectin in the cell wall along with cellulose and hemicellulose. The collenchyma cells are found in the hypodermal layer of the dicot stem. These cells have negligible intercellular spaces due to pectin deposition. Collenchyma is said to be the living mechanical tissue.
