Q. Calculate the mean kinetic energy of one gram of carbon dioxide gas. Carbon dioxide $\left(\left(CO\right)_{2}\right)$ is a triatomic gas $\left(\right.O=C=O\left.\right)$ . (Given, $N$ = Avogadro number, $k$ = Boltzmann constant and molecular weight of $CO_{2}=44$ )

Solution:

Mean KE of gas is,
$E=f\times \frac{\mu R T}{2}$
Degree of freedom for $CO_{2}$ is $f=7$
$E=7\times \left(\frac{m}{M}\right)\times \frac{R T}{2}=\left(\frac{1}{44}\right)\times \frac{7 N k T}{2}E=\frac{7 N k T}{88}$
