Q. Calculate the change in entropy $\left(\right.ΔS\left.\right)$ , when one mole of an ideal gas is compressed to half of its initial volume and simultaneously heated to twice of its initial temperature.

Solution:

$ΔS=C_{v}ln\left(\frac{T_{2}}{T_{1}}\right)+Rln\frac{V_{2}}{V_{1}}$
$=C_{l ln 2}+R\times ln1/2$
$=\left(C_{r} - R\right)ln2$
