Q. Calculate the amount of $50\%\, H_2SO_4$ required to decompose $25 \,g$ of marble (calcium carbonate).

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

$\underset{(100\, g)}{CaCO_3} + \underset{(98\, g)}{H_2SO_4} \to CaSO_4 + H_2O + CO_2$
$100 \,g$ marble requires $98 \,g$ of $H_2SO_4$
$25\,g $ will need $ = \frac{98}{100} \times 25 $
$ = 24.5 \,g $ of $H_2SO_4$
But $H_2SO_4$ provided is only $50\%$ so amount required will be
$ = \frac{24.5\times 100}{50} = 49\,g$
